Owner and Publisher Janice L. Dennie worked at a small university press in Berkeley, California, learning the publishing process. She later completed a writing program with a literary agency, developing her writing, plotting, and characterization skills. She founded Kente Publications in 1997 to publish her debut independent novel, "The Lion of Judah." She found success in distributing her novel on Amazon.com in paperback and e-book format and became an Amazon.com Bestselling Author. She then moved on to writing, publishing, and distributing fourteen (14) more novels and novellas in various genres.
In 2016, Ms. Dennie founded Kente Productions LLC, her independent film company, to produce her Independent film "The Underwoods of Napa Valley, based on her novel, "Kenton's Vintage Affair," which she began filming in 2017. The Underwoods of Napa Valley is streaming on NBC Peacock.
In 2020, at the outset of COVID-19, Ms. Dennie moved into the comic book/graphic novel industry by establishing Kente Comics, an imprint of Kente Publications. She created her Ursa Universe series of comic books, with fantasy and Sci-Fi stories: "Girl From Xiratha," "Firebird Red Feather of Death," "Star Angel Defender of the Universe, Chalawan Uranus Rise of the Half-Humanoids, and Brane: The Streets and the Stars." She is currently hard at work on her next issue in the series and is searching for illustrators and writers to join the Kente Universe family.
